This is my basic packing list, it doesn't get followed to a T but it definitely reminds me of everything I could need.  Hopefully this helps you create your own list of essentials. Happy packing!

Allergy med.    Swiss army knife.    Acne cream.    Mud mask.

Passports.

International driver's license.

Boarding pass for flights or booked transportation.

Toilet change- Europe. Yes, you pay to pee overseas but most of the time you are guaranteed to have a clean bathroom. Well worth the .20 - 1 Euro!

2 prong Euro adapters. Two or three pronged options.

European adapters.  Europe's electric current is 220 volts.  Some of our US items are dual voltage.  Each appliance has a label stating the requirements.  If an item is dual voltage, it will be labeled as input 110 -220 or 240v either on the appliance or near the power plug.  Many electronics are available in dual voltage.

3 prong adapter for Italy. 2 prong work as well, but you will
need the prongs to be skinny to fit all plugs.

My version of keeping hair things together!

Camera & backup camera.   Battery charger.   Extra camera batteries.    A few SD cards.   Kid's portable game players & a few extra games.   Game charger.   i-pods.   Wine opener.   Beer opener.   Travel book.   Dirty laundry bag.   Small garbage bags, quart & gallon sized ziploc bags- roll up into one & wrap rubber band to hold.   Hand sanitizer- sometimes bathrooms do not have hand soap, I'll wash with this as well.   Hand mirror.   Gum.   Medications.   Napkins or paper towel roll.    Disinfectant spray or wipes.    Large water bottles. Hand wipes.    Hotel flip-flops.   Snacks.   Cell phones.   Small notebook & pen.   Laptop.   GPS navigation.    Small packs of tissues (as tp, you never know!)   Quart bag w/ plastic forks, knives & spoons for each person.   Backpack for the day out.

All weather coats.   Umbrellas.    Warm socks.    Thermals.    Gloves.    Hats.    Body warmers. Scarves.    Pajamas.    Sunglasses.   Swim suits & trunks.    Sunscreen.     Bug spray.

Makeup bag

Eyelash curler.    Foundation.   Concealer.    Blush(es).   Mascara.    Eye shadow/ liner.    Lipstick/ lipgloss.    Application brushes.    Birth control pills.

Creative uses of tiny containers.

I use a gallon sized freezer bag to hold all of our "dry" bathroom items so I can just throw it in the bathroom from the suitcase. The shower bag has everything that doesn't dry quickly so when we get home, I can throw it in the wash. I stay as organized as possible on vacation so we don't forget anything. Everything has a bag to throw into & go.

Pick up 2-3 oz. bottles of travel sized contact solution
for carry-on only flights.

Flight Liquid Bag:

1 Liter or quart sized freezer double zip bag. 100 ml. or 3 oz. of each liquid. All products can be put in tiny travel containers or purchased in travel size. Samples are awesome for travel since you toss them while you're away and reduce your space. Contact cases work excellent for items that you don't use large amounts of. Face creams, eye cream, makeup, makeup removers, face masks, etc. Hair products can all be bought in travel sizes or transferred to other small containers. Be creative. Most airlines restrict the type of shaving razor in your carry on. It must be a disposable plastic razor.

Sample packaging is awesome for travel!
These work awesome if you have a microwave
or any appliance that can heat water.
I bring along travel sized creamers as well.

Place your shoes in a shower cap to
keep everything else clean in your bag!

Do you have any other packing items or ideas that should be added?  Please let me know.
