I wasn't creative enough to come up with the formula. I give all credit to Frugally Sustainable.
Old Fashioned Tooth Powder
4 Tbsp. Bentonite clay.
4 Tbps. Calcium Magnesium powder
1-3 Tbsp. Cinnamon powder
1 tsp. - 1 Tbsp. Clove powder
1 Tbsp. Xylitol from Birch Trees
1 Tbsp. Activated Charcoal (optional)
You can turn this into a paste with coconut oil. Excellent for oral health and has antibacterial properties.

Bentonite Clay. An edible clay that is full of essential minerals and helps rid the body of toxins. A gentle abrasive and cleanser. The alkaline property counteracts bacteria growth during the day since bacteria feed on the sugars of food debris in your mouth. The acidic environment eats away at tooth enamel, creates halitosis, and can enflame gums. The alkalinity of the clay balances that acid.
Calcium Magnesium Powder. An essential mineral for healthy body function and a gentle abrasive. Helps with the remineralization of our enamel.
Cinnamon. Antimicrobial and tastes awesome.
Cloves. Heals and prevents cavities. Mild pain reliever/ numbing effects.
Xylitol. Made from birch trees, there are other options which you do not want in your tooth powder. Sweetens slightly and is a major anti-plaque component. You're now seeing it pop up in many retail toothpastes.
Activated Charcoal. Optional. Draws out toxins in the body and is a natural tooth whitener.
I skip the baking soda and sea salt that are in other formulas. Both are much too "salty" in our powder and the extra abrasion is really not needed. Baking soda should not to be used on braces!
Homemade Mouth Wash
Fill a bottle with tap or filtered water, I'm not going to be fussy about it.
Add 8-10 drops peppermint or spearmint oil per cup of water.
You can add 1/2 tsp. baking soda if you'd like for an extra fresh mouth.
Store in a capped bottle and shake well before each use. If you don't you are going to get a strong dose of mint the first time and just water the next! Oil floats. ;)
I keep mine in a glass maple syrup bottle. I also store a bottle of peppermint oil in the bathroom so I can mix when needed instead of heading to the kitchen.
