Basic Taco Seasoning Mix & Taco Meat

Basic Taco Seasoning Mix

* 1 Tbsp. Ground Cumin (smoked is also tasty)
* 1 Tbsp. Garlic Powder
* 1/2 Tbsp. Chili Powder (optional)
* 1/2 Tbsp. Paprika (smoked is also tasty)
* 1/2 Tbsp. Onion Powder ( I skip this if I am adding sauteed onions to the mix)
* Smidge of Sea Salt & Ground Black Pepper.
* Cayenne Pepper (optional)

Brown meat well. Crispy bits are nice.
Add seasoning.
If the meat seems a bit dry, add water until moist but not wet.

I love my taco meat to taste more smoky with cumin.

Taco Meat
Animal Protein or Vegan Option

* Carnivores: Ground Pork. Beef. Chicken. Turkey. Venison. I mean really, you can create taco filling out of any animal!

* Vegans: Green French Lentils. Black Beans. Black- Eyed Peas. Pinto Beans. Red Beans. Really any protein filled legume.

* I prefer a pound of ground grass-fed, sustainably raised beef or pork cooked down into browned tastiness. Crunchy bits are a bonus.  Once cooked down, I toss in 1/2 - 1 c. cooked Green French Lentils to extend the mix and add awesome vitamins & fiber. The lentils absorb all flavors from the meat and seasoning without a legume-y taste.

* Add a large dose of taco seasoning. You want them FLAVORFUL!!!

* 1/4- 1/2 c. water added to the pan adds moisture. Cook until water evaporates but not until the mix is all dried up again.
