About Me

Hey there,

I'm Jessica and welcome to Contrived Simplicity. I'm a type A who is unable to do anything totally simple! As an Air Force family we've moved across the ocean to Germany & back again.  Life isn't always effortless (quite literally) but I never take for granted the life blessing we were given.  While living in Europe, I became a foodie and travel/ culture addict. With travel and life in general, it can require research and budgeting to create an efficient plan. There's a lot to learn in this World!  Also, being an active duty family, you learn many life hacks along the way. Hopefully this blog will simplify  a few of your own life's adventures.

Our lives changed 180 degrees while living in Europe. Life quit being all about "busy" and more about enjoying everything in it. We pulled closer together as a family unit, learned constantly and became connected to our surroundings.  We also changed out diet to sustainable eating with Organic and Non-GMO vegetables and animal proteins. We eat far less meat than we used to and treat it as a side flavor profile, not the main course. I became a scratch chef at home and create many foods that we used to normally buy.  On a limited budget, eating healthily and organically can be affordable but it requires cooking, even in short amounts. Aside from travels, our family does not dine -out, period.  We also do not purchase many convenience foods or packaged foods that break the bank quickly. The amount of work can be a bit much sometimes yet it is extremely gratifying.

This is my reel to share my small ways of creating simplicity in this seemingly complicated world.

May you learn, laugh and enjoy.

  1. I love it! I will plan a trip to Durbuy soon. I won't feel so nervous about wondering where to park and where to find food and what language to expect. I was so sure a town in northern Belgium spoke French; but they spoke Dutch. I was trying to use (butchering) the French I learned in high school. I look forward to more of your insights and suggestions.
    Thank you! Peggy
